What Is Corn DDGS?
Corn DDGS — distillers dried grains with solubles — is the co-product left after starch in maize is fermented into ethanol. Removing the starch concentrates everything else roughly threefold, which is why a grain that starts at around 9% protein finishes at 27%, with the fat, fibre and minerals concentrated in the same proportion.
For a feed formulator that makes corn DDGS an energy-and-protein ingredient rather than a pure protein source. At 3384 kcal/kg metabolisable energy it competes with cereal grains on energy while contributing meaningful protein, digestible phosphorus and xanthophylls.
Corn DDGS Nutritional Profile
Every consignment ships against a certificate of analysis. Typical values:
- Crude protein 27% — roughly three times the parent maize
- Metabolisable energy 3384 kcal/kg; digestible energy 3946 kcal/kg
- Crude fat 5%, contributing energy density
- Crude fibre 10%, with ADF 10% and NDF 20%
- Lysine 1.00% and methionine 0.55%
- Phosphorus 0.82% — high, and largely available, which offsets inorganic phosphate in the ration
- TDN 74 for ruminants, 85 for poultry and aqua
The phosphorus figure is the one buyers most often overlook. At 0.82% it materially reduces the dicalcium phosphate you need to add, and that saving rarely gets credited when people compare on headline price alone.
Where Corn DDGS Works Best
Cattle and dairy
Ruminants handle the fibre fraction well, and corn DDGS is widely used as a combined energy and rumen-undegradable protein source. TDN of 74 makes it a straightforward partial replacement for grain plus oilcake.
Poultry
Inclusion is usually capped by fibre and by the amino acid profile — corn DDGS is lysine-limited relative to soybean meal, so it supplements rather than replaces. The xanthophyll content is a bonus where yolk or skin pigmentation matters.
Aquaculture
Works in omnivorous species where the fibre load is tolerated. TDN of 85 for aqua reflects the higher digestibility in these diets.
Swine
Useful in grower and finisher diets. Fat content should be watched where carcass firmness is specified.
Corn DDGS or Rice DDGS?
The two are not interchangeable. Rice DDGS carries 45–55% protein against 27% for corn, so on protein density rice wins comfortably. Corn brings more energy, more digestible phosphorus and pigmentation.
The correct test is cost per unit of the nutrient your formulation is actually short of. At current ex-Panipat rates — ₹25/kg for corn DDGS, ₹26/kg for rice DDGS 45% — corn works out to roughly ₹0.93 per kg of protein against ₹0.58 for rice. If protein is the binding constraint, rice DDGS is materially cheaper. If you need energy and phosphorus, corn earns its place.

Quality Parameters Worth Specifying
Put these in the contract, not just the enquiry:
- Moisture — 10% maximum. Above that, storage risk and effective cost both rise.
- Mycotoxins — fermentation concentrates them alongside everything else. Specify limits for aflatoxin, DON and zearalenone.
- Colour and smell — dark, burnt-smelling material indicates over-drying and reduced lysine availability.
- Flowability — matters for bulk handling in humid conditions.
- Fat stability — check peroxide value on longer shipments.
Our DDGS quality checklist covers the full pre-shipment routine, and our quality certifications set out what ships with each consignment.
Packing, Storage and Shipment
Corn DDGS is supplied in bulk or 50 kg bags, with a shelf life of approximately one year when stored correctly — dry, off the floor, with stock rotated. In humid climates keep turnover tight and check for caking at the base of the stack. We ship from Panipat across India and export FOB Indian ports.
Corn DDGS — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the protein content of corn DDGS?
Our corn DDGS guarantees 27% crude protein, with 1.00% lysine and 0.55% methionine. Every shipment is supplied with a certificate of analysis.
What is the current corn DDGS price in India?
Our indicative ex-Panipat rate is ₹25 per kg as on 1 August 2026. Rates move with ethanol run rates, maize prices and freight — see our DDGS price list for live pricing.
How much corn DDGS can I include in poultry feed?
Inclusion is generally limited by fibre and by lysine rather than by protein. Most commercial poultry rations use corn DDGS as a partial substitution alongside a lysine source rather than as a straight soybean meal replacement.
Is corn DDGS suitable for dairy cattle?
Yes. Ruminants handle the fibre fraction well, and at TDN 74 corn DDGS is widely used as a combined energy and undegradable protein source in dairy rations.
Do you export corn DDGS?
Yes. We export from India to South East Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe, quoting FOB Indian ports with a certificate of analysis on every shipment.
